Thermometers with switch contacts

Wherever the process temperature has to be indicated locally and, at the same time, limit values must be monitored, thermometers with switch contacts find their application. The switch contacts make or break the circuit dependent upon the pointer position of the indicating measuring instrument. If the reading is significantly above or below a set value, they trigger an alarm, hence also the term “alarm contact”. The instruments are also suitable for starting, stopping or switching processes.

FAQ

Do thermowells need to be CE marked?

Thermowells must not be CE marked, in principle. An exception as a result of its special design is the model TW61 thermowell with DN>25, suitable for orbital welding. This must be CE marked in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU).

Why can't the shaft of the bimetal thermometers be manufactured longer than 1m?

Since the weight of the pointer shaft would be greater than the turning bimetal coil (i.e. the pointer would no longer be able to move).
